Meditation Journal for a forever novice
I thought I’d write a very honest and realistic look at my meditation practice in a week. The message is to humanize the experience, to be accountable for myself, and also show that what matters most is consistency.
Day 1: Mindful meditation staring at my dishes as I thoughtfully sud, scrub, and rinse each piece of dish ware listening to the sound of the water, the clanking of the dishes and the wind flowing through the window.
Day 2: Ten minutes spent breathing deeply with my eyes closed in the sauna at the local gym. Surrounded by a lot of heavy breathing sweaty gym patrons(myself included), trying to focus on breathing through my diaphragm.
Day 3: Yoga class shavasana, laying flat on my back, sprawled out and taking up space on my mat. Closing my eyes and thinking of sweet nothings.
Day 4: Meditation turned into a nap resting on my back for 10 minutes that turned into 40 minutes.
Day 5: Took five to ten deep breaths at lunch and while in my shower rinsing away the day
Day 6: Ten minutes spent in the sauna again, overall 20 minutes spent sweating it out but half of that trying to focus through the heat and suffocating air to breathe deeply and intentionally focus my mind on what I can control.
Day 7: I walked for about half an hour through my typical path in the neighborhood with my headphones playing classical music and noticing my feet contacting the sidewalk with each step, and the shifting of my legs impacting the weight of my spine and the swing of my arms.
And there you have it. I wouldn’t say I’m monk status but for a neurodivergent lass with chores and a business to run I’d say I’m damn proud.
